I have a tendency to be a “go with the flow” kind of person. Rather than coming up with a plan, I prefer to flush out the details of an existing plan. Typically, when my wife and I plan a trip, she will decide where to go and I will work out exact dates, routes, and hotels. I also like to focus on the present more than the past and future.
When approaching a problem, I try to look at it from different angles and give consideration to unusual solutions. An idea may seem strange at first, but it can start to make sense when you weigh the pros and cons. At times thinking analytically can be a detriment, because I keep considering new factors and struggle to make a decision.
I always try to treat people fairly, whether I personally like them or not. I feel that I thrive when I am able to stick to a routine. At my work, I tend to stick to the same nightly tasks, in the same order, whenever possible. I also see the value in clearly defined procedures. It can be frustrating at work when different people handle a similar situation differently.
At times I can be “my own best friend” due to the constant stream of thoughts almost feeling like a conversation. I see the value in sometimes prioritizing understanding a project, rather than advancing it. I can have trouble with having mundane conversations and much prefer to have ones that are intellectually stimulating.
I sometimes find myself running through the different options of how a scenario could play out. When thinking about politics, whether for my own understanding or to prepare for a family debate, I try to understand the different viewpoints and how to argue against them. I like to find patterns and determining which ones I need to focus on.
The trait I would most like to improve is consistency. I could do a much better job of sticking to a set routine. I think that having a good routine can allow me to focus on my other strengths. When you spend so much of your time planning the next hour, you don’t have as much energy to look at the big picture. It is important to be able to adapt to external factors, but I think that when it comes to what you can control, you should create a stable environment so you can focus on your priorities. I can improve my consistency by making simple schedules for my days.
